Q: How much should I offer to pay for a domain?
A: That's really up to you, but there are a few things you ought to consider before making an offer such as the cost of registering the domains and renewal charges (we've had some of these domains for a while now) then there are the costs charged by the domain naming authorities for changing ownership and of course the domain name itself. If it is a desirable, prestigious domain name, or a self-describing domain name (great for SEO) then it is worth more than some of the quirky or less obviously personal domains that we own. Don't forget that this is a one-off charge, once you own it, renewal costs will only be a few pounds every year or so!

Some facts about domain names...
Responsibility for the allocation of globally-unique internet names and numbers is held by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) and administered by ICANN an internationally-organised non-profit organisation set up by the Internet community to help coordinate IANA's areas of responsibilities.
ICANN organises domain administration on a country by country basis through internet registry bodies such as Nominet in the UK and InterNIC in the USA. ICANN itself operates InterNIC under licence from the US Department of Commerce.
Each internet registry is responsible for that country's Top Level Domains (TLDs) - that is the two or three letter code to the right of the final "." in a domain name, so the "UK" in BuyDomain.co.uk for example.
